Experience the Via Ferrata
Via Ferratas, translated as Iron Way, date back to WWI. Italian soldiers built Via Ferratas to safely traverse mountain passes. The recreational use of Via Ferratas is a staple in the Alps for summer adventure, and Jackson Hole is excited to bring this experience to the Tetons. Climbers secure themselves to cables to limit the risk typically associated with unprotected scrambling and climbing. The routes also have aids, such as iron rungs, pegs, carved steps and suspended bridges.
This summer there will be 3 different loops, varying in difficulty from an introductory climb to more difficult routes. There are 6 routes in total, the longest at over 500 vertical feet, and can include a breathtaking experience crossing a 120' suspension bridge.
- Approach Area - These routes are the best introduction to the Via Ferrata. Your guide will teach you how to operate the equipment, basic climbing etiquette, and will get you comfortable scrambling around on the rock. This intro experience will mix climbing and hiking and will culminate with crossing the 120' suspension bridge.
- Ranger Ridge Area - After mastering the approach routes, your guide will take you on one of two more challenging Ranger Ridge routes and you will summit at the spectacular suspension bridge. Time and skill will determine your next route.
- Casper Buttress Area - The routes in Casper Bowl offer the full Via Ferrata experience. You will have a greater feel for heights and exposure and you will challenge your climbing skills.
All routes lead you back to the restaurants at Rendezvous Lodge to celebrate your mountaineering accomplishments!Explore

All the questions that are popping into your head right now - ANSWERED!
Via Ferrata is a trail or protected climbing route used in the mountains to make passage easier and more secure. It's done by installing steel cables, handles, and ladder rungs in places where the trail steepens. Participants are secured to the rock by wearing a harness that is always attached to the steel cable. Our Via Ferrata guides will accompany you on your alpine adventure.
The Jackson Hole Via Ferrata is designed to accommodate beginners seeking a taste of the alpine, and to accommodate folks who already have a little alpine experience.
