What is Via Ferrata?
Via Ferrata, translated as "iron way," dates back to WWI. Italian soldiers built via ferratas to safely traverse mountain passes. The recreational use of via ferratas is a staple in the Alps for summer adventure, and Jackson Hole is excited to bring this experience to the Tetons. With 20 unique routes, the Jackson Hole Via Ferrata is an adventure unlike any other, offering some of the most incredible views of the valley as climbers make their way up iron rungs, ladders and suspended bridges, all while secured to cables along the rocks.

What is the difference between the Via Ferratas on the Casper Buttress and in Corbet’s Couloir?
Casper Buttress
Duration: Full day or half day
Difficulty: Any level, can be tailored
Lifts accessed: Bridger Gondola
The Via Ferrata on the Casper Buttress is available to all skill and ability levels. It includes a multitude of routes from beginner to advanced — no climbing experience required. Your professional guide will tailor your experience and level of challenge to your group. Your morning or full-day adventure will likely include multiple routes on the Casper Buttress, each topping out on a secluded ridgeline, high in the Tetons, with stunning views of the valley below.
Corbet’s Via Ferrata
Duration: Full day only
Difficulty: Strenuous
Lifts accessed: Bridger Gondola and the Aerial Tram
In winter, Corbet's Couloir is the most famous steep run in Jackson Hole. In summer, the Corbet's Via Ferrata lets you climb the iconic terrain surrounding it — a steep, sustained ascent from Tensleep Bowl to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain, more than 4,000 vertical feet above the valley floor. Three routes await, including the Tectonic Traverse approach, Exposure Therapy, and Commitment Issues — all longer and more physically demanding than the Casper Buttress routes, and featuring two extraordinary suspension bridges: the Iron Journey and Epiphany bridges. To access Corbet's Via Ferrata, you'll ride the iconic Aerial Tram, then hike and scramble down into Corbet's Couloir. Guests confident in their fitness and ability to move over steep, uneven terrain will find this to be one of the most rewarding mountain adventures in North America. Because of the difficulty, Corbet's Via Ferrata is offered as a full-day experience only. Your guide will take you to the Casper Via Ferrata in the morning before heading up the Tram. Corbet's Via Ferrata is available for guests ages 12 and older who weigh over 88 lbs.
How it works
The Jackson Hole Via Ferrata is a series of routes composed of cables secured to the rock. Climbers wear a harness with specialty Via Ferrata lanyards and carbineers that are used to clip into the cables and move along the route.
Guests are paired with an experienced Jackson Hole guide who will lead them through the adventure and help with terrain selection.
