Holiday Storm Recap

We came into the back half of December with optimism steadily rising. Forecasts hinted. Temperatures held their ground. Then, just before the Winter Solstice, a series of storms delivered Jackson Hole exactly what we’d all been hoping for.

Since that mid-month turning point, we’ve been riding a steady and productive storm cycle that pushed us solidly into winter. Over the last week, we’ve received 3.5 FEET of fresh snow, bringing our season total at the summit to 146”, 99” at mid-mountain. That’s 42” of fresh snow since Wednesday, Dec. 17!

winterSnowfall came in steady daily doses: 6” on 12/18; 6” on 12/19; 10” on 12/20; 2” on 12/21; 10” on 12/22; 6” on 12/23. That’s a lot of snow in a short amount of time, which helped heal the wounds of an early season dry spell, transforming our slopes into snow-covered heaven. However, with so much new snow, Ski Patrol had their work cut out for them. Thank you to our Patrol, Lift Ops, Mountain Ops and Grooming teams that braved the elements and readied the mountain ahead of the holiday rush. Snow has been stacking above 8,000’, delivering skiers and riders ample expanded terrain, fresh tracks and full smiles.

This holiday season, we’re grateful for the wintery conditions in the Tetons. Especially as so many mountain resorts across the country struggle with fickle snowfall. As of today, all lifts are officially open for our historic 60th anniversary winter season, and the Aerial Tram continues to transport skiers and riders to the infamous summit for 4,139 vertical feet of descent.

Santa Claus descending from the aerial tram on christmas day in jackson hole, wyoming

With snow stacking and plenty of terrain open, the holiday season at Jackson Hole is in full swing. Winterfest is underway, bringing family-friendly merriment to Teton Village with a lineup of fun, festive events and après moments that make the holidays at JHMR unforgettable. A highlight of the week is the always-anticipated Santa drop from the tram on Christmas Eve, a Jackson Hole tradition that marks the holidays in classic, Big Red style.

Beyond the events, the mountain is buzzing from first chair through après, with on-mountain dining that rounds out full winter days. There's no shortage of options when looking for where to eat. Legendary Corbet’s Cabin serves Top of the World waffles at 10,450 feet. For some, it’s the sole reason to ride the tram and for others, it’s fuel for a day of skiing or riding. At the base of the tram, Tram Dock offers the perfect après scene with a lively patio, music, a four-sided bar and a menu built for post-ski cravings. While inside, indulge in the rich history of Jackson Hole that decorates the walls. Higher up, Piste Mountain Bistro delivers a standout alpine dining experience, offering both lunch and elevated dinner service at the top of the Bridger Gondola. At mid-mountain, Trapper’s pairs modern mountain cuisine with the elegance and warmth of a classic winter chalet, making it an ideal place to unwind between laps or linger into the evening.
