Teton Pass Closure Update: Final Repairs Scheduled This Weekend

Last summer, Jackson Hole, WY experienced a major infrastructure challenge when a landslide destroyed a section of Teton Pass (WY-22) — a vital commuter and travel route between Jackson and Victor, Idaho. Emergency crews worked quickly to build a temporary bypass, restoring limited access while a long-term fix was designed. Now, the final step in that repair process is set to take place.

Final Closure for Permanent Repairs

Teton Pass will be fully closed from Thursday, June 27 at 6 p.m. to Saturday, June 30 at 6 a.m. During this 36-hour window, Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) crews will complete the permanent realignment and stabilization of the slope, ensuring the route is safe and reliable for years to come. While WYDOT expects to complete the project this weekend, be advised that weather has the final say in progress associated with this project. Look to WYDOT for further updates.

What Does This Mean for Travel?

While Teton Pass will be closed during the scheduled work, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village remains fully accessible from all directions.

  • From Jackson Hole Airport (JAC): Continue south on Highway 191 through the town of Jackson, then head west on Highway 390 (Moose-Wilson Road) directly to Teton Village.

  • From the south (Alpine, Star Valley, Idaho Falls): Use Highway 26 through Swan Valley and the Snake River Canyon to reach Jackson, then follow signs to Teton Village via Highway 390.

  • From the north (Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks): Travel south on Highway 191/89/287, passing through Jackson and continuing to Teton Village.

  • From eastern Idaho (Victor/Driggs): Detour through Highway 31 to Swan Valley, then follow Highway 26 to reconnect with Highway 89 toward Jackson.

No matter where you're coming from, Teton Village and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort remain open and reachable. Visitors should simply allow extra travel time due to the detour around the Teton Pass closure.

Plan Ahead

Travelers and commuters should allow for extra time during this closure, especially those who typically rely on Teton Pass for daily travel between eastern Idaho and Jackson. Be aware of possible construction activity before and after the closure as crews work to finalize details.

Once reopened, this permanent repair will bring a long-awaited sense of normalcy back to the region’s transportation network.
