Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is notorious for downhill skiing, but one of its best hidden gems is the cross country terrain weaving throughout the greater Teton Valley. Personally, downhill skiing can be hard on my knees, so occasionally I like to give them a break and try a different outdoor activity.
If you’ve never tried cross country skiing (also called Nordic), fear not! Nordic Ambassadors are out at the Stilson Track every Saturday and Sunday from 10am-2pm offering free (yes, free) cross country technique and skills. They’re great teachers and eager to help anyone who shows up with gear. Gearless? Skinny Skis offers $10 off cross-country rentals if you mention that you’re going to ski with Don and Gwenn, your friendly Nordic ambassadors (see their smiling faces below).
Want to take your technique to the next level? Consider our Classic and Skate lesson series taught by Rob Murphy at Stilson Track. There are 3 sessions of 2 weekly classes for beginners and intermediate skiers. They are during lunch hour, 12-1 or 1-2. Registration is through Teton County Parks and Recreation. And I’ll be honest, it’s a screaming deal for just $30 a session and it’s a great way to meet people with common interests!
