WEDNESDAY | 10/10/18 | UPDATE:
Last weeks storm brought the beginning of multiple systems that have moved through the Tetons. This morning we found an additional 4 inches blanketing the upper elevations of the Tetons and beautiful bluebird skies. Those conditions were shortlived as another pulse moved in this afternoon with small amounts of precipitation expected. It seems that we’ve begun to turn the corner towards a sustained cool period as temperatures are hovering between 40 and 50 degrees for the coming days. Don’t look back now for fall, as winter is coming.
Check out some photos from this morning as mother nature gives us a preview of what’s ahead.
Fall arrived a little over two weeks ago in the Tetons while September proved to be one of the best months of the year with 0″ precipitation and immense sunshine and great weather. Needless to say, it appears things have changed quickly with our first measurable snowfall of the season falling overnight Thursday. A trip up Big Red on Friday morning revealed considerable snowfall from nearly the base of Thunder to the top of Rendezvous Mountain. Most areas received around 2″ but some drifts measured 4-6″ and the Top of the World area showed deeper conditions. Big Red closes for the ‘summer’ season this Sunday- but that’s ok as what lies ahead proves to be of ‘deep’ proportions. Check out the photos below from atop Rendezvous Mountain this morning and remember, winter is coming.
There is nothing better than peak foliage as the trees around the valley are changing colors being flanked by snowcapped mountains and it appears we will have these conditions for the foreseeable future. Weather points to consistent snowfall with intermediate sunshine through Wednesday of next week. Temperatures are dropping and locals are rumbling… “Is this the beginning?”
