Valentine’s Day can evoke a variety of emotions, depending on who you are. Some people are cutting out paper hearts and sprinkling glitter wherever it will stick….and some are planning their best all-black outfit. I think that we can find a happy medium, especially if you’re spending the weekend in Jackson Hole. There are a ton of events and fun ways to celebrate the day, both in Teton Village and downtown Jackson, and this list aims to point you in the best direction. If this blog post is sending shivers down your spine because you forgot that Sunday is the Hallmark day of love, fear not–I have a few ideas that will make your special someone very happy, and could also get you on the Jackson Hole slopes (for cheap).
1. Live Music
Jackson Hole always offers a wide range of live music and this weekend is no exception. If you’re looking for romance, nothing is better than dancing with your sweetie at The Wort Hotel in downtown Jackson. Want something more laid back? The Mangy Moose is the perfect place to listen to music without overdoing the “lovey-dovey” gesture. Here’s a day by day live music guide:
2. A Delicious Meal
There are two restaurants at the top of the Bridger Gondola that will provide a uniquely romantic evening that you’ll never forget. If you’re looking for casual-yet-sophisticated fare, Piste Mountain Bistro is the spot for you. Known for it’s delicious cocktails and savory shared plates, Piste has a romantic ambiance and views overlooking the Teton Valley at night. Occasionally, a groomer will drive by, giving you a behind the scenes look at Jackson Hole after the closing bell–How many people see that during their dinner?!
If a white tablecloth affair is what you desire, Couloir Restaurant is the perfect choice. Before you even sit down for dinner, staff will set you up with a warm blanket and hot chocolate for the ride up to 9, 095 feet. Couloir serves a seasonal prix-fixe dinner menu, featuring American cuisine with Rocky Mountain roots-add the outstanding views and you have a truly unforgettable experience.
Reservations are recommended for both locations. Click here to book a table.
3. Something Cozy to Wear
It can get chilly up in the mountains and it’s important to find gear to combat the cold in style. Located at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Teton Village Sports is known for fashionable winter apparel that will make any lady squeal with happiness. A personal favorite is the Astis Dias mittens, but are plenty of options outside of the mitten category.
4. A New Toy
For many, Jackson Hole is a dream vacation that leaves them counting down the days until they can return. Why not buy your sweetie a souvenir that keeps them dreaming of powder in between vacations? For the 50th Anniversary Season of Jackson Hole, Libtech, Burton, Rossignol, Smith, Dakine and other well-known brands made limited edition 50th products to commemorate this amazing milestone. Head to Jackson Hole Sports at the top of the Bridger Center and they’ll steer in your the right direction. Give these items as a gift and you’ll get a big ole smile.
5. Pure Relaxation
Jackson Hole is action-packed, but sometimes it’s nice to slowwwww down. One of the best spots to relax in Teton Village is at The Chill Spa in Hotel Terra, where you can pick a treatment off the menu or go for something more customized. Either way, you’ll feel fresh and zen.
6. A Cold Beer and Good Company
Some people think that Valentine’s Day isn’t fun if you’re single, but in Jackson Hole we find the opposite to be true. This Saturday, the Jackson Hole Babe Force is hosting it’s annual GALentine’s Day Ski-venger Hunt, where women of all ages and ski abilities come together to have some fun on the slopes and celebrate being a female in the mountains! The festivities start at 1:30 at the base of the Bridger Gondola. If you don’t know anyone going, just go alone and make some new friends! You can even ditch your guy (briefly) for some GALentine’s shenanigans. The ladies will meet for Apres at the Alpenhof at the end of the day.
7. A Fun Adventure
Fat Biking is the new winter craze in Jackson Hole and a fun excuse to explore beyond the slopes of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Stop by Hoback Sports in downtown Jackson and their knowledgeable staff will get you set up with all of the necessary rental gear. Not sure where to go once you have your rental? Not to worry, the Hoback folks can help you plan your adventure as well.
8. Philanthropic Experience
This weekend, the Jackson Hole Shrine Club is hosting the 45th Annual Cutter Races south of downtown Jackson Hole. This is a great opportunity to partake in a locals’ favorite event that raises money for the Salt Lake City Shriners Hospital for Children AND see something that you probably haven’t seen before. Trust me, it’s a blast.
9. New Skills
Whether you’re new to the slopes or somewhat of an expert, sometimes it’s fun to brush up on your technique. The Mountain Sports School at Jackson Hole has a variety of lessons, camps and clinics that will cater to all abilities and at the pace you prefer. Plus, the instructors are known to be fun, highly knowledgeable and great at making local recommendations.
10. Something to Look Forward To
Some of you are reading this from a place that’s not Jackson Hole and you’re feeling a little bit defeated about all of the fun that you’re missing this weekend. Not to worry. Right now, Delta is offering a $200 flight credit per person when you book a minimum 4 night package that includes round trip airfare, lodging and activities. Not sure when to visit? You will blow your special someone’s mind if you surprise him/her with tickets to Jackson Hole’s 3rd Annual Rendezvous Festival featuring Zac Brown Band, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Nathanial Rateliff & The Night Sweats and more. Seriously, minds will be blown. $20 tickets are still available here, so purchase them before they’re gone!
