Jan. 27 - Feb. 2Dr. Huckinstuff's weekly recap:

This week the Tetons traveled through something of a winter worm hole. The week kicked off with a tiny touch-up that feather dusted the flanks of Rendezvous Mountain, softening the skier packed slopes and allowing for some secluded fresh turns from the top of Casper Bowl or the Crags. The classic visual of cotton candy inversion layers had us floating on cloud nine while we went wedeln' down the sun kissed slopes. But the blazing sunshine and soaring temperatures quickly transformed sliding surfaces to slush and turned skiers into unwitting time travelers on a mountainscape more typical of May. Locals and visitors alike seemed to ease into the weird weather with a jovial comradery that matched the warm spring vibe. As the week came to an end, the novelty of our glimpse into the future started to wear off and we began to wonder if we would ever be transported back to our proper position in the space-time continuum. Then as if on cue, Friday dawned with clouds spilling into the Hole and stray flakes flying through the air, sending us back to our rightful place in time. Looking ahead, the season's script has been flipped and unsettled weather is finally stacking up in the forecast. So, with cautious optimism and a steady stoke we ride towards the next storm. Daydreaming that in February 2024, rippin' cold smoke will be the norm. -Lege

10-Day Forecast

Per OpenSnow's Jackson Hole Daily Snow Forecast:

This is shaping up to be a really nice storm with snow starting wet/dense and turning drier/more powdery, and winds will also be relatively light for most of the event. Winds will be a little gusty Saturday PM, but nothing like what we can sometimes see during storms. Saturday should offer fun storm skiing conditions throughout the day, with Saturday afternoon offering the deepest conditions (at least in areas that don't get too tracked out prior). Additional accumulations on Saturday night, even if somewhat lighter compared to the daytime hours, will freshen up the slopes again for Sunday morning. Keep in mind that during the earlier part of this storm, there will be some crust layers felt underneath, but once snow totals add up over time there is a better chance of burying some of these crusts. The crusts will be noticeable throughout the storm below 8,000 feet, however.

After enduring another dry pattern, it's exciting to see a potential of +2' of fresh snow in the forecast. Subscribe to OpenSnow to get the full Jackson Hole Daily Snow Forecast.

Jackson Hole Conditions Report: Jan. 20-26

Jan. 20-26Dr. Huckinstuff's weekly recap:

Tickles and teases tempted skiers through the week of January 20-26, as daily touchups and momentary deep turns kept skiers engaged in the uniquely pleasurable game of powder hide and seek. While fresh snowfall totals were unexpectedly slight, accompanying mild temperatures kept the sliding surfaces soft and gave dopamine deprived air fiends new opportunities to take flight. Some of the best atmospheric visuals of the year (so far) went down this week, as slow-moving, multi-level cloud layers sent snowshine and shadows refracting into deep, indescribable hues of indigo. Read on for the full report!
