Memorial Day in the Tetons unofficially marks the start of summer. The weather is improving, trails are drying out, lakes are icing out and summer activities are starting to ramp up. Memorial Day 2014 offers no shortage of entertainment. The town of Jackson and Teton Village will play host to a myriad of events and activities for all ages to enjoy. With so many options to choose from I thought I would offer up one possible agenda for your Memorial Day weekend.
The fun starts at the Snow King Center at 5:30 Friday night with the 26th Annual Rotary Club Winefest. Winefest is a local favorite, with proceeds benefiting local scholarship programs. Taste wines from over 90 different wineries.
9am: Old West Days: The Mountain Man Rendezvous and trader’s row starts at 9am at the Teton County fair grounds. Get out there and get a taste of the true Old West.
10am: After you have hit the trader’s row at the fair grounds head over to the town square to view the Old West Days parade. There you will find mountain men, covered wagons, vintage cars and a legendary gathering of gunslingers.
11am: Old West Brew Fest: A favorite among locals and visitors, brew fest takes place on the town square. Sample a variety of local or regional beers. While you are on the square make sure to take in all the shops and sites the Jackson has to offer.
6pm: Jackson Hole Shootout: The shootout is the longest running shootout in the country dating back to 1957. Get out there and watch the gunfighters in action
8pm: Jackson Hole Rodeo: The rodeo is not to be missed. This is the real deal folks. If you haven’t seen bronco riding or barrel racing you are in for a treat.
9am: Head out to Teton Village for a ride on the aerial tram which opens for summer operations on Saturday the 23rd. Go for a hike, get a few last ski turns in (outside of the resort boundaries of course) or just relax and enjoy the view. The top of Rendezvous Peak is a great place to start your day with a waffle and a hot chocolate.
11am: Take a Hike: The lower hiking trails in Teton Village are ready for you. Get out on the trail and see the sights. Are there any wild flowers yet? How many animals can you spot?
12am: Lunch: The restaurants in Teton Village are open and the summers menus look fantastic. The Handlebar at the Four Seasons is running a 2 for 1 lunch special and they are serving $3 beers. What better way to spend a Sunday.
10am: American Legion Memorial Service: Town Square flagpole.
These are just a few things you can do in Jackson Hole on this Memorial Day weekend. Whatever your plans are we hope you have a fun and safe weekend with family and friends.
