Qualifiers kicked off this morning for the IFSA junior free ride hosted here at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort where all the athletes took to the Toilet Bowl venue for their opportunity to impress the judges and move on to finals. We have competitors ranging from U12 all the way to 18 hailing from across the region and across the country.

Calm and collected mid cliff drop.

The Judges (Joe Turner, Matt Lancaster, Susan Mol) certainly had their hands full today because the field of skiers and riders was stacked with talent, and it sure showed. As the snow began to fall harder the athletes only stepped up their game sending impressive doubles and stomping massive gaps that gained them a loud roar of respect from the crowd watching in awe down below. The snow has been piling up all season in Toilet Bowl lending itself to some great conditions and a wide variety of possible line choices through the venue. The competitor’s lines consisted of a variety of chutes, cliffs, steeps, and gaps and were judged primarily on line choice, fluidity, creativity, control, and style. Everyone was already sending like they were in the finals so we can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds.
