Telemark Instruction and Coaching

In addition to great snow and some of the best terrain in North America, Jackson Hole boasts a corps of expert telemark instructors, including the greatest concentration of Telemark Examiners in PSIA’s Intermountain Division.

Learn the turn which dates back to Norwegian Sondre Norheim’s historic jump over his father’s barn in Telemark, Norway in 1870. Starting with a Tele resurgence in the 70’s and 80’s, Telemark was the equipment of choice for backcountry skiers, who used it to access untracked snow and to tour for long distances. Tele equipment manufacturers led the way to the current trend toward fatter skis for better floatation in powder. Innovations in Tele ski shape and newer camber design, and improvements in the boots, have made Tele gear easier than ever to learn on.

Today, Telemark is more about the gear than the turn itself. Many Tele’ers love the freedom, comfort and mobility of Tele gear, and choose on a turn-by-turn basis whether to drop a knee or not. Whether your ambition is tele’ing the blues with slower skiing partners, hitting the terrain park, popping and dropping, shredding pow or spanking the mank, you can reserve some time with one of our telemark pros to learn or refine the elegant turn that is admired for its grace around the world.

Women's Tele Workshop

Telemark Guided Backcountry Tours

On Teton Pass or Jackson Hole Mountain Resort's Backcountry

This is the premier skiing experience of Jackson Hole’s best. Find the most untracked snow, experience solitude and grandeur and learn backcountry safety and etiquette. Guides will provide coaching, safety and camaraderie. Beacons, pack, avalanche probe and shovels can be purchased or rented at Jackson Hole Sports.

- Full day Guide beginning at 8:30am - $675*
- Half day AM Guide at 8:30am - $540*
- Half day PM Guide beginning at 1:00pm - $400
*Each additional person $30 (3 max)

Tele Sundays

Intermediate and advanced workshops are affordable and a fun way to meet other tele’ers and turn up your technique. Lessons meet at 9:30am at the Telemark Meeting Place outside of Café 6311 on the south side of the Bridger Center. . Rentals are available from Jackson Hole Sports.
Cost: Sunday sessions ($200 for 4 or $60 per session)
