UPDATE (12/16/16 2:ooPM): What a day it has been in Teton Village. Snow has been falling non-stop (literally dumping/puking/nuking) since yesterday afternoon and skiers/riders were greeted with 17″ in 24 hours with 7″ falling since our lifts closed yesterday as part of their morning snow report. If that doesn’t make you get out of bed, we’re not sure what will! It’s safe to say that conditions are all time here in Jackson Hole and it’s been a ‘December to Remember’! Riding the lift today was like going into hyper-speed in Star Wars, every dang time. Needless to say the stoke is high inside the confines of the JHMR offices and on the hill.
We did some digging into the historical data for snowfall during December and found that with 207 inches of total snowfall season to date in Rendezvous Bowl and snow depths of 82 inches, this marks the DEEPest December on this date in 40 years at JHMR. Oh happy day! Tomorrow we open our new Sweetwater Gondola and while the weather is expected to subside, conditions on the hill look like they will be great throughout the weekend, until Monday or Tuesday when the next storm is expected to arrive!
The faucet has been turned on this December, and it’s still dumping snow here in Jackson Hole. As of 12/15/16 at 3:30pm, 87″ of snow have fallen in December alone, so “Deepcember” seemed an appropriate moniker. The past 2 weeks have been surreal here, and deep powder conditions have filled everyone’s dreams! The Lower Faces opened Thursday, 12/15/16, and the Hobacks will be opening soon! Check out what our athletes have found the past several days:
The first turn of the morning is a good one in Dick’s Ditch.
Full on dumping here on Thunder lift. Some of that ‘hyperspeed-esque’ snowfall we discussed earlier.
As you can see the snow has piled up quite a bit. DJ finds the goods.
