Parents Guide

A Parent's Guide for Pioneers (Age 3 - Pre-School)

How do I know my child is ready?
If your child is 3 years-old, toilet-trained and raring to go, we will give them a positive ski experience.

How should I dress my child?
Start with a thin layer next to the skin - long johns or thermals. Layer according to the weather with polar fleece tops and pants as insulation on colder days. Bring a hat and helmet, neck warmer and waterproof mittens. Don't forget ski goggles or sunglasses. Use only one pair of socks, preferably ski socks as they keep kids' feet drier and warmer. Apply sunscreen.

Where do I begin?
Save time and money by enrolling your child online.

Upon arrival at the Kids Ranch, head to the Will Call desk to collect your rental form and J Card for lesson and lift access. Then, walk a couple of steps into Jackson Hole Sports Junior to be fitted for rentals.  The Will Call desk and Jackson Hole Sports Jr. are open daily until 4:30pm, with next day rentals available after 2pm. If possible, pick up your J Card and rentals the day before your child's lesson begins.

Now what?
Check-in for Pioneers begins at 9:15am in the Ranch Room inside the Kids Ranch. A cubby room across the hall allows you to store any street clothes, extra layers, etc.  Your child will need to check in for their lesson already dressed for the day with their ski/snowboard boots on.  At check-in, we will scan your child's J Card and provide you with a pickup card. Please notify staff at check-in of any special needs or allergies.

What is the schedule for the day?
After a trip to the bathroom and water fountain, we head out skiing. Breaks may be taken during the morning, depending on Pioneers' age, energy level and weather. Lunch is at 11:30am for the first three beginner levels and noon for levels 4 and up. Story time follows lunch. An afternoon ski session caps the day. Pick-up is at 3pm in the Ranch Room. During pick-up, you can check in with your child's instructor. Lunch, snacks, hot cocoa and cold drinks are all provided. Half-day lessons begin at 1pm and do not include lunch.

*BRING YOUR PICK-UP CARD TO ENSURE FUSS-FREE RETRIEVAL OF YOUR CHILD. PHOTO ID WILL BE REQUIRED IF THE CARD IS LOST OR FORGOTTEN*
