Jackson Hole Photographers
Chris Figenshau - Winter Photo of the Day - www.figenshau.com
Chris Figenshau is a Jackson, WY based photographer whose work has been featured in various publications including Outside, Men’s Journal, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, Powder, Skiing and Backcountry magazines. As one of the foremost names in snow sports and wildland fire photography, Chris’ greatest strength lies in documenting paths less traveled.
Originally from Michigan, Chris made the move to Jackson, WY after graduating from the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism in 1994. In order to finance his passion for skiing in the notoriously expensive mountains of Jackson Hole, Chris worked three years as a sawyer with the Denali Hotshots, a Type I Alaskan fire fighting crew. This experience, coupled with a successful ski photography resume, led to Chris’s current position documenting wildland fire fighting efforts nationwide for the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, ID.
Chris’ pursuit of outdoor photography has carried him to some of the best powder stashes, and most disastrous hot spots around the globe. With an incurable case of wanderlust and a passion for the unexplored, Chris strives to exceed clients’ expectations with every shot.
Figenshau's clients include The North Face, Patagonia, Rossignol, Smith Sport Optics, Giro, Boeri, Gregory Backpacks, Thorlos, Black Diamond Mountain Equipment, Teton Gravity Research, Warren Miller Films, Storm Show Studios, and the United States Bureau of Land Management.
Some of his work is available at Soap Stone Lion and www.figenshau.com.
