Backcountry Safety
Know before you go
Since the 1999-2000 season, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has allowed skiers and snowboarders to exit the ski area boundary via gates along the perimeter. Not only is this practice unprecedented for ski resorts in the US, but it allows access to thousands of acres of backcountry skiing in Bridger-Teton National Forest and Grand Teton National Park. JHMR neither encourages nor discourages backcountry use, though we do advocate continual education and practice in the essentials of safe backcountry use. This video is merely a primer for those interested in learning more about backcountry safety; it is no substitute for proper education, preparation, and awareness. Your safety - and the safety of others - depends on it.
