Ski Level Assessment
There are class lessons available at Jackson Hole for everyone, from the most inexperienced beginner through seasoned experts. Choose the level below that best matches your ability before heading to the Ski Class Lessons Page.
Beginner - Learn to Turn
- Level 1 - Your first time on skis
- Goals: Basic gliding, wedge turning, and control on our easiest runs
- Level 2 - You can turn slightly and stop in wedge position
- Goals: Linked wedge turns on our easiest runs
- Level 3 - You can make linked wedge turns on green runs
- Goals: Start turns in wedge position and finish in parallel position
Intermediate - Turn it Up
- Level 4 - You can make controlled wedge turns with a parallel finish
- Goals: Variable turn shapes with speed control on most green runs
- Level 5 - Confident on green runs, but find blue runs difficult
- Goals: Learn to achieve parallel position earlier in the turn and vary turn shapes for different situations
- Level 6 - You can ski blue runs with a slight wedge opening at the start of the turn and finish in a parallel position
- Goals: Develop linked parallel turns, feel comfortable on groomed blue runs, and refined pole use
Advanced - Mountain Masters
- Level 7 - You can easily make open-stance parallel turns with a pole plant on most blue and some double blue runs
- Goals: Learn a variety of different parallel turns including a narrower stance and refined timing of the pole plant
- Level 8 - You can make good parallel turns on most double blue and some black runs with good speed and control
- Goals: Develop dynamic turns and technique for moguls, powder, and steeps
- Level 9 - You are a strong parallel skier in bumps, powder, and steeps, skiing most black runs comfortably
- Goals: Develop tactical and technical variations for skiing all terrain and snow conditions
