Ski & Snowboard Safety
|
“ Our Mountain is like nothing you have skied before! It is huge, with variable terrain from groomed slopes to dangerous cliff areas and dangerously variable weather and snow conditions. You must always exercise extreme caution. You could become lost. You could make a mistake and suffer personal injury or death. Protect yourself – understand the trail map and ask questions before you proceed. Obey all trail signs and markers. Please think and be careful.
Give this special mountain the respect it demands!”

Winter recreation can be enjoyed in many ways. At Jackson Hole, you will see people using alpine, snowboard, telemark, cross country or other specialized equipment, such as that used by disabled or physically challenged individuals.
Regardless of how you decide to enjoy the slopes, always show courtesy to others and be aware that there are elements or risk that common sense and personal awareness can help reduce. Observe the codes listed below, and share with others the responsibility for a great winter experience.
1. Stay in control.
2. People ahead have the right of way.
3. Stop in a safe place for you and others.
4. When starting downhill or merging, look uphill and yield.
5. Use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
6. Observe signs and warnings, and keep off closed trails.
7. Know how to use the lifts safety.
This is a partial list. Be safety conscious.
- LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP
Scope around the jumps first, not over them. Know your landings are clear and clear yourself out of the landing area.
- EASY STYLE IT
Start small and work your way up. (Inverted aerials are not recommended.)
- RESPECT GETS RESPECT
From the lift line through the park.
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort recommends that parents, skiers and snowboarders educate themselves about the benefits and limitations of helmets and make informed choices for themselves and their children. Remember, each skier’s or snowboarder’s behavior has as much to do with their safety as does any piece of safety equipment. For more information on helmets go to: www.lidsonkids.org.
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort neither encourages nor discourages backcountry touring. Skiers/snowboarders crossing out of the JHMR boundaries, do so at their own risk. Read the posted signs at the designated access gates before proceeding. Call the Bridger-Teton National Forest Backcountry Avalanche Hazard & Weather Forecast at 307.733.2664 for more information or contact the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Guide Service at 307-739-2663.
