The Kemmerer Family

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) is a maverick in the winter sports industry. It thrives as one of the last independently-owned resorts thanks to the Kemmerer family, whose enduring commitment to Wyoming is intertwined in the state’s history.

Jay and Connie Kemmerer and Betty Kemmerer Gray's ties to Wyoming date back to the turn of the century when their great grandfather founded a Connie & Jay Kemmerersouthwest Wyoming town that today bears the family name. The family’s business interests in coal mining and banking started in 1897 and prospered through the 1980s.

In the 1990's they re-invested in Wyoming and purchased Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and a historic guest ranch in Dubois called the CM Ranch in 1997. The Kemmerers have maintained the working integrity of the CM Ranch, inspiring families to return to vacation year after year. Under their ownership JHMR is enjoying unprecedented growth with commitments to more than $50 million worth of capital improvement projects planned for the next ten years.

While Jay’s varied duties as chairman of the Kemmerer Resources Corporation keep him in New Jersey most of the year, his vision for the Resort remains focused. As chairman, he has guided the arduous effort in developing a Resort master plan. While years in the works, visitors are now beginning to reap the benefits of this plan.

Among his numerous industry and community affiliations, he is a current trustee and treasurer of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation, Grand Teton Music Festival and the Spring Gulch Preserve. He also founded the Harding Land Trust Inc. and is currently a trustee.

Connie, who lives full time in Jackson Hole, is a member of the Board of Directors of JHMR and also the Director of Special Projects for the Resort. Her commitment to the Resort’s colorful history is clearly evident. From the Tram Dock retail store in town to the new Bridger Center and Cody House in Teton Village, she has protected the integrity of the Resort’s Old West image in every last detail.

Betty, who today lives in Sun Valley, Idaho, where she vacationed with her family as a child, remains a part owner of the Resort. Her devotion to the area, the ski industry and the environment provides support for the efforts of Jay and Connie in Jackson Hole.
