Aerial Tram Update & What's New at JHMR
NEW LIFT TO MID-MOUNTAIN: JHMR installed a new triple chair "Sweetwater" that will directly link the beginner terrain to low intermediate terrain at mid-mountain. The base terminal will be reached by riding either of the beginner lifts and the top terminal will be situated upslope from Casper Restaurant and Casper Lift.
"With steep slopes and lifts that rise over 4200 vertical feet, beginners through low intermediates have historically struggled here. This new lift dramatically improves their experience and our teaching environment by allowing gradual transition from green slopes to the gentle blues of Casper," commented Brian Maguire, JHMR Mountain Sports School Director.
CAFE 6311: Teton Village has a brand new 72 seat indoor cafe. Located at the base of the Bridger Gondola, Café 6311 takes its name from the elevation of Teton Village. Offering a quick and tasty menu selection, it is already a popular spot. The Mountain Sports School and Private Guide desks have also moved into the Bridger Center to improve customer service and expedite registration processes.
DAILY NON-STOP JET FROM DALLAS: JH AIR continues to improve air travel options into Jackson by confirming a new daily, non-stop flight from Dallas to Jackson on American Airlines in addition to the 5 other daily cities; Minneapolis (NWA), Chicago (AA), Denver (UAL), Salt Lake City (DL), and Boise (Big Sky Air). Weekend non-stop Delta service is also available from Atlanta and Cincinnati.
Aerial Tram to Close October 2006 - Planning for Replacement Lift in Full Swing
The June 2005 decision to close the Aerial Tram October 2006 was made following 18 months of unprecedented evaluation into all facets of Tram operations by leading industry engineers. The results required JHMR to make a decision regarding ongoing tram operations. Although tough and emotional news, JHMR is now focusing its attention on the future and feasible solutions regarding tram replacement.
Discussions with two lift manufacturers will render us with a couple of complete scenarios for review. We are focused on either a tram or a bi-cable gondola, both on a similar alignment to the existing tram. The financing of either project is being discussed internally. We have decided at this time to not concentrate our efforts on outright appropriation but instead are researching other public and private financing mechanisms. We will keep the public informed as soon as any long term decisions are reached.
For Winter 06/07
With the absence of the tram, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will implement the following measures to ensure guests can ski or ride 100% of the mountain, lift out of the base is quick and efficient, and lift access to the summit of Rendezvous Bowl remains.
1. We will purchase 18 new cabins for the Bridger Gondola (our main "workhorse" lift that operates from the base to the Headwall, 2730' vertical rise). This will increase uphill capacity from the base by an additional 600 skiers per hour from 1800 to 2400 on this lift. (The aerial tram currently represents uphill capacity of less than 250 an hour from the base)
2. Pending Forest Service approval we will construct a temporary double chairlift up Rendezvous Bowl. The alignment will follow skiers left through the trees to just below Corbet's Cabin. Named East Ridge Chair, the five minute ride will be accessable via Sublette. The design for East Ridge Chair is taking into consideration the sometimes severe weather conditions in Rendezvous Bowl, with an attempt to maximize the available operating time.
3. Potentially increase uphill capacity on Thunder Chair by adding extra chairs.
While making improvements, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort remains committed to preserving the Old West. The same old-fashioned hospitality that welcomed yesterday's mavericks and outlaws, still welcomes today's skiers, snowboarders and vacationers. JHMR Passholders who ride the Tram over 100 days will be recognized with a gift and the ability to ski an extra day after closing day. The tram will run extra hours at the end of the season and the old $2 tram surcharge coupons will once again be valid - for beer this time! For the last 10 days of the season Teton Village will be a non-stop festival with daily live music acts culminating in a free outdoor concert. It will be a celebration like no other at the Resort. Throughout the winter other specific tram events will take place.
