Only one thing comes to mind for me when I think of Jackson Hole. Skiing!
So when my wife and I moved here in September I knew I had to get ready for the ski season. How many people get the chance to live in a ski town ranked #1 in the country?! It’s hard to admit but my skis were so old I didn’t even bring them to Jackson. lol (They were K2 El Caminos if you must know)
I also knew that my feet were going to be my biggest enemy this ski season; My whole childhood was spent being fitted with different ski boots…getting custom orthotics and trying everything we could to help me have no pain while skiing. (Thanks Mom and Dad!)
Things got so bad that I even tried snowboarding for two years; it turns out I wasn’t very good.
Before this ski season I headed over to Teton Village Sports and was amazed at the new selection…mostly because I had been out of the ski scene for a while and things certainly had changed! Skis were wider, boots were nicer and ski poles were lighter.
The crew at Teton Village Sports were awesome…the best ski shop I had been in. Picking out skis certainly wasn’t the issue…it was the boots that were going to be interesting; and that’s exactly what I told them! They had seen it all though…and assured me that they would work as hard as they needed to get me pain free.
Their boot selection was great…plenty to choose from; but I had no idea what to look for. Thankfully they did!
I ended up with the Salomons above…with some major adjustments. They fitted me for a custom orthotic as well as adjusting the boot; the Salomon was modifiable by heating up the shell. This worked really great because I would ski with it and then come back into the shop to have them make more room in spots that were giving me a little pain.
If I felt any pressure with the orthotics they did their magic by adjusting the orthotics…really neat to watch!
Now I am skiing like crazy everyday that I can…especially when it’s a big snow day! The pain in my feet is at an all time low…thanks to the knowledgeable crew at Teton Village Sports and their equipment craftsmanship, I can now hit the slopes whenever I want.
