Jackson has historically been a breeding ground for talent. From Crystal Wright and Jess McMillan dominating the big mountain scene to Travis Rice and Cam Fitzpatrick testing the talent limits of the snowboard community…there are an incredible amount of athletes raised in the Tetons. These athletes are often found traveling the globe, but every professional winter athlete still finds time to come home to Jackson. One of these special talents-Resi Stiegler-will be coming home this week on a break from the World Cup circuit (which she finished an impressive 11th and 16th in Aspen and Levi). Her homecoming will involve a fundraiser this Saturday for her racing season. I quickly caught up with Resi between her travels to get the low down on her season and favorite Jackson spots!

How’s the year going?
So far so good. I am excited the season has begun. Its kinda started off with a bang. This season we have World Championships and you need to qualify for them so I need to get as many points as possible to get my ranking up. I’ve raced the first two World Cups and I am doing really well and I feel strong. I worked hard this summer with [local gym] Mountain Athlete and I feel solid on my skis which gives me good confidence!
What’s your favorite run at Jackson Hole?

I have to say when they groom the Grand I am just in heaven first tracks down that baby on GS skis… feels so good.  I love any part of the mountain on a powder day- there are so many secret spots!

What’s your favorite village apres spot?
I really enjoy the the Spur for nachos and margaritas…. and Stieglers down the village road for the best winter appetizers at the Copper bar!

Gates or Powder ?

I love them equally which is hard to understand I’m sure. Powder is what I grew up skiing and loving and that’s where my passion came from but I love the challenge and the focus of racing and improving my turn.

Favorite people to ride with?

My uncle Peter, cousin Elise and best friend skiing since childhood Hadley Hammer (editors note, I didn’t bribe her with gluten free cookies to say that!) and Andrew Byron and my favorite pose of snowboarders Mark Carter and Willie McMillon. I have been skiing with these lovers since I was little so its for sure what makes getting home and getting out on my favorite mountain are some of the best days out of the year!!!!!!
Tip for visitors coming to Jackson Mountain Resort ?

Go big or go home. Be ready to challenge your skiing and make it fun. Get out of your comfort zone! Its the place to be!
