Thanksgiving turned out to be special this year for so many reasons.
Not only am I thankful for my wife, who has made so many dreams come true, but for the start of new traditions in a new town.
We’ve been having a blast getting back on snow today, with a lot of fun skiing to be found off of Teewinot, Apres Vous, Marmot and Casper. With Free Ski Day (including live music, food/drink deals, raffle and more) tomorrow and fun events like the Peep Show on Saturday, things are just kicking off in Jackson Hole. Tune in for some photos from Day One!

With over 7 feet of snow falling this season and help from our snowmaking crew, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will open up with almost 3,000 vertical feet of skiing and riding. The Teewinot, Apres Vous, Casper and Marmot lifts will be opening up on Thanksgiving, offering up a great variety of terrain. We got out on the mountain to check things out yesterday morning and found some great skiing. Our ski patrol and mountain operations staff are out there working hard to finish up with getting the mountain ready to open.
Snowmaking is still going strong on the Apres Vous and Teewinot side of things, so we checked out what Marmot and Casper were looking like. Views from Lupine Way show the upper mountain looking gorgeous.
Mother Nature has been kind to the upper elevations of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort so far, gracing us with 87″ already this season. Our snowmaking team has been hard at work as well, loading up the lower elevations and picking up where Mother Nature has left off. Working around the clock in sub-freezing temperatures is no easy job, and a lot goes into getting the mountain into prime skiing shape in the early season. It’s thanks to these guys that we will be skiing and riding almost 3,000 vertical feet on opening day (on Thanksgiving). Take a look behind the scenes of the Jackson Hole Snowmaking team:
Jess McMillan needs little introduction. She is the most winning freeskier (big mountain competitions) of all time, male or female. Jess now spends her winters filming with Warren Miller and skiing in Jackson Hole.
Have you ever been in a real snowstorm?
No, I mean the kind where the snowflakes are bigger than life?
With snow totals over 55″ on the season, winter has been ramping up like crazy around Jackson Hole. We went up the tram for a look and were expecting it to look like winter, but the huge drifts were way beyond our expectations. The winter stoke is high right now, to say the least!

Crystal Wright is a Freeskiing World Tour Champion and is definitely one of the fittest skiers around. Crystal will be competing on the Freeride World Tour this year and trains year round to stay at the top of her game. Crystal offers up a few of her favorite exercises to get in shape for the season. Also, check out the video below to see Crystal and fellow athletes training for the season.

I have been training at Mountain Athlete for 4 years now and it has helped me so much and changed my skiing completely! I have worked through some pretty serious injuries while training there and now I can say I have very little chronic pain and my body feels the best it has in a long time. Training sport specifically really helps a ton with the ski season and even through the off season. I train 4 days a week in the off season and 2 through all of the sport seasons. It makes such a difference keeping your muscles balanced and strong. The body needs to stay equal and when I just ski, bike or climb all the time certain muscles become weak. I owe a lot to Rob and Mountain Athlete for helping me out! I also opened my own gym about a year ago and promote very similar type of training to my athletes to get ready for ski season! It is so awesome to see how much stronger everyone becomes. I do all types of Base fitness training to sports specific to young adults. It is so neat to see everyone excel with their goals in fitness whatever that may be. (more…)

After moving to Jackson a few weeks ago I was overwhelmed by the amazing people that live in this town.
Within days I had been connected with people from all over Jackson willing to help me find my way as my wife and I settle into our new town. It took me back how far people would go to try and help…certainly a great first impression of this gorgeous ski town!
But I have to say…my real welcoming party came with some feathers.
