Longtime Jackson Hole skier, celebrated ski mountaineer and Teton Village resident Kit DesLauriers was recently honored by National Geographic and named one of 10 Adventurers of the Year. The illustrious group of athletes keeping company with DesLauriers, are recognized as ‘outstanding’ individuals “who made our year in adventure with remarkable achievements in exploration, adventure sports, conservation and humanitarianism,” according to editors.

National Geographic’s nomination, which is in part a contest to be settled at the end of January, is the latest in a list of accolades this impressive local athlete and mother maintains. A two-time Freeskiing World Tour champion DesLauriers also the first person to climb and ski down the globe’s Seven Summits.
Since this 2006 achievement, which included the first female ski descent of Mount Everest, DesLauriers has been raising two children with husband Rob DesLauriers and making lots of ski turns in the Tetons and in her backyard here at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort with noteworthy descents in Wyoming and well-abroad.
Kit’s most recent Spring, 2014 adventure to the remote mountains of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska realized the perfect blend of guts, gumption and groundbreaking glacial research to earn her a coveted spot in this years roster of NatGeo’s Adventurers.  A great Jackson Hole News & Guide story, ‘Glory Days for DesLauriers’ tells more!
