Ladies and Gentlemen, Skiers and Riders, it’s time to kick off another season of “Dropping into the Weekend” blog posts, where I tell you about all of the coolest events to attend and how to maximize your fun once you get there.  If you’re questioning whether I’m cool and/or fun, touche.

Anyway–Seeing that this weekend is both Thanksgiving and Opening Day, I figured I’d help you drop into the season with a full events lowdown.  Thank you and you’re welcome.

Thanksgiving and Opening Day Events

Location:  Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Teton Village, Wyoming
Time:  Opening Bell at 9 am.
Information: Pack your shreddiest attitude. And maybe a pocket snack.  It’s finally time to reopen the slopes and with a storm expected to roll through this week, it’s bound to be a fun day for all. Once you’ve worked up an appetite from copious laps, head over to Nick Wilson’s, The General Store, Cafe 6’311, The Spur or The Handle Bar for the first of many apres sessions in Teton Village.

THE INSIDE SCOOP:  It’s time to rip up the slopes on Opening Day so that you earn your turkey dinner.  But let’s be honest, we’ve all been diligent at the gym for the last 2 months in preparation for the season *cough cough, choke* so we don’t need to worry about earning it too much.

Flashback Friday

Location: Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Teton Village, Wyoming
Time: Friday, November 27th, 2015
Information: This Friday  ONLY, enjoy $6 lift access – the same price of a Jackson Hole lift ticket in 1965! All proceeds from this day will be donated to charity. In addition, Jackson Hole Sports and Teton Village Sports will offer $6 ski/snowboard rentals and waxes.  The $6 deals will continue into apres at Nick Wilson’s, The Handle Bar, Terra Cafe, The Spur and The Mangy Moose.

THE INSIDE SCOOP:  You guys.  This is a big day for a lot of reasons.  First, the $6 lift ticket price is a dream come true.  Second, $6 rentals, waxes and apres deals make the day even sweeter for those who head out to Teton Village.  The best part?  Throwback attire is highly encouraged and I have no doubt that all of you will *bring it* in a way that would make me proud.  I’m looking for this get-up from my first day of skiing.  Don’t worry, I ditched that sour attitude back in the 90’s.

chin up, only 20 more days until we open

Town Square Lighting

Location: Jackson Hole Town Square
Time: 5-7 pm
Information: Thousands of LED bulbs will be wrapped around the famous elk antler arches and strung around the stately trees. The lighting of the Town Square is a breathtaking moment as the bulbs sparkle to life. Children and families delight at the arrival of Santa Claus who enters with a team of sled dogs from Jackson Hole Iditarod.

THE INSIDE SCOOP:  Aside from spring daylight savings and my birthday (selfish, sorry), this is one of my favorite days of the year.  With one flip of a switch, downtown Jackson Hole becomes a wintery wonderland perfect for sipping hot chocolate, ice skating, holiday shopping, and perhaps even holding hands with your sweetie.  You’ll find me snapping pics and publishing artsy Instagrams.

Warren Miller Premiere: Chasing Shadows

Location: The Pink Garter Theater
Time: Showings at 6 pm (all ages) and 9 pm (21+)

Information:  This event is a fundraiser to help rebuild Nepal after the earthquake last spring.  Proceeds will go to the dZi Foundation. Tickets are $10 for kids, $12 for adults online at www.pinkgartertheatre.com   Tickets at the door are $12 and $15. After party hosted by AVALON7 featuring DJ Whipple at the Rose immediately following the film.

THE INSIDE SCOOP: This will be another fantastic film to get you amped for the winter season, but an extra feature sets it apart. 3 words.  Ugly.  Sweater.  Competition.  After the 9 pm showing, the best/worst looking sweater could win some lift tickets to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.  And endless bragging rights.

LIVE Music at The Silver Dollar Showroom

Location: Silver Dollar Bar in The Wort Hotel
Time: Friday and Saturday from 7:30 – 11 pm
Information: Free music from Rock Creek for a 21+ crowd.

THE INSIDE SCOOP:  The Silver Dollar Bar is one of my favorite places to listen to live music and dance with dapper cowboys (sidenote: you are not required to dance with said cowboys to listen to the music).  If you need a Friday night plan, perhaps you should attend the Town Square lighting, catch a showing of “Chasing Shadows” and then round out the night at The Wort.   No pressure, but it’s a great suggestion.

Check in every Thursday for your “Dropping into the Weekend” updates for the rest of the 50th Anniversary winter season. See you out there!
